English term or phrase: Fool's Choice
In a guide about how to deal with difficult conversations :

The Fool’s Choice is believing that you have to choose between telling the truth and keeping a friend or colleague.
It’s being trapped in an either/or box. When we feel threatened our brains go into survival mode and our ability to think of options and alternatives decreases.

faux dilemme
Explanation:

“fool's choice”: « faux dilemme »

False dilemma (or false dichotomy, false binary, black-and-white thinking, either–or fallacy, fallacy of exhaustive hypotheses, fallacy of false choice, fallacy of the false alternative, fallacy of the excluded middle, etc.): informal fallacy that involves a situation in which only limited alternatives are considered, when in fact there is at least one additional option.

- “Logical fallacies: the False Choicehttps://kestalusrealm.wordpress.com/2010/03/02/logical-falla...

In French, “faux choix” is quite rare (logic's specialists) and/or confusing, rather unclear. Hence my proposal: “faux dilemme”; intuitively for anyone: “Oh, something is wrong in this choice/dilemma”, and almost readily understandable in the context of the present text i.e. with the explanations.
