English term or phrase: getting exercise
How the French media have covered the presidency of François Hollande can indicate the change in recent times to media reporting on political figures. In particular, François Hollande the French president has had much of his private life reported in the press. CLOSER magazine in particular has reported much about him. It alleges that he met Ms Gayet at a Parisian apartment. Mr Hollande did not deny the allegations. A report of this kind by the media can result in a lawsuit but in terms of a defence, Closer can suggest that exposure of her affair with the President was in the “public interest”. It could also be said that Ms Gayet and Mr Hollande had often sought publicity in the past for their private activities and this was just an attention getting exercise.
