I´d say that in both cases the embolus HAS TO BE documented through surgery, autopsy or clinical investigation. In the first case a definition of "peripheral embolic event" in this particular circumstances is given and in the second case is stated an exclusion criteria, i.e. that patients who have had an infarction are excluded UNLESS it can be proven throught operation, autopsy or clinical investigation that their infarction was caused by an embolus.
I am sorry, but my French knowledge is not sufficient to give the wording in French, I can just give you the meaning!
