Unfortunately, by shortening it, you have drastically changed the meaning. What is "applied into the pleural cavity" is the "patient’s chest tube", not the drainage device. The drainage device would seem not to be inside the chest tube, but used "in conjunction with" it. So, if you have to shorten the sentence, the correct preposition is "avec", not "dans".
