English term or phrase: shotgun
Dans cette phrase :
«Command: Bravo Six, we have an Abrams dead in the water. Call sign, "War Pig". Lt. Vasquez, your unit is shotgun.»
Je ne saisis pas trop le sens de "shotgun", c'est un nom de code ou cela a-t-il une signification particulière dans le jargon militaire ?

Explanation:
C'est un nom de code... à l'origine, pour dire que l'on veut quelque chose avant un autre, on s'exclame "shotgun". Le mot a peu à peu été détourné et se retrouve dans le langage courant.

Shotgun= aller en 1er, avoir l'avantage sur les autres, etc.

disagree  Eliza Hall: That meaning exists but isn't what's meant here. See the PS in my translation.

Reference: Riding shotgun (slang)

Reference information:
"Riding shotgun was used to describe the guard who rode alongside a stagecoach driver, ready to use his shotgun to ward off bandits or hostile Native Americans. In modern use, it refers to the practice of sitting alongside the driver in a moving vehicle. The phrase has been used to mean giving actual or figurative support or aid to someone in a situation."

PS: The source text is from Call of Duty. "Your unit is shotgun" means your unit is ordered to go to the aid of the Abrams tank. Quote from Call of Duty wiki about this exact text:

"Rescue and escort of War Pig
"Bravo Six we have an Abrams dead in the water. Callsign "War Pig". Lt. Vasquez, your unit is shotgun, over."
— Command

Vasquez led his men to the aid of War Pig, caught in a bog inside the city."

Asker: Thanks Eliza but I agree with Daryo. I actually already saw that definition but wasn't able to adapt it in the sentence in French

Asker: Thanks Eliza, because of the PS you added, the sentence looks clearer to me now :)

agree  Daryo: "your unit is shotgun" => can't see how "riding shotgun" would apply to this ST: a whole unit riding shotgun? on an Abrams dead in the water? Something is missing ... // "being shotgun" = being the escort / protection => makes sense now.

-> Your unit acts as support for my unit. Which is exactly what the source means -- see my PS above.
