agent de couplage

Explanation:
mutual solvent
A volatile solvent so called because it is miscible with more than one class of liquids. Acetone, for example, is miscible with water, alcohol, and ether, as well as with oil, alcohol, or ethereal fluids. Such a material is also known as a coupling agent because it can cause two ordinarily immiscible liquids to combine with each other, forming a clear solution. (233 )

cosolvant

Explanation:
The most common translation of "mutual solvent" is "cosolvant" in French.
This is an agent or a solvent that enables two non-miscible phases to interact of create an emulsion.
The most commonly experienced "cosolvant" effect is with the French "vinaigrette" sauce: mix oil with vinegar and you get two phases, whatever your efforts to shake the sauce. Add a bit of mustard as the "cosolvant" and you may get a reasonable stable sauce with much better homogeneity.
