This kind of automatic, word-for-word back-translation is doomed to failure — and one could argue that your back-translation of "Ne me soumets pas à la tentation" as "Do not submit to the temptation" is just plain wrong! A better back-translation would be "Do not subject me to temptation" — which would fit perfectly for your requirements!
I think you have to start by deciding if you want it to read in such a way that it will instantly strike a chord with anyone who knows the Lord's Prayer — if so, you would be well advised to stick as close as possible to the 'traditional' wording, just making the 1st person plural > singular modification, which does not materially change the 'feel' of it.
To an extent, you should not worry about the back-translation — at best, it will only be a very unreliable guide for yourself; any native FR-speaker reading your tatoo will take it at face value and is not going to be back-translating it into EN; what is important is that it rings true in FR! |
