I'm fairly convinced that "DON'T READ" is an instruction to the investigator telling them not to read the line "ALTERNATE ORDER OF ITEMS Yes No" out loud to the participant.

So I'd just say it means A NE PAS LIRE.

So it's quite different from "Don't know" which is a reply to the question and which the investigator does need to read out loud...

It looks like words in capitals are instructions for the investigator.

(Or depending on how it is laid out, it might be telling them not to read "Don't know" out loud which could also make sense)
