English term or phrase: null direction
Alternatively, the filter may be obtained for each frequency in the filter design process such that the power of sounds from directions other than the direction that is the target of sound enhancement and null directions is minimized on conditions that (1) the filter passes sounds in all frequency bands from the direction that is the target of sound enhancement and that (2) the filter suppresses sounds in all frequency bands from one or more null directions.

null directions (directions in which the gain of noise is suppressed).

French translation:direction de suppression du son
Explanation:
the clue is there:
null directions = directions in which the gain of noise is suppressed

IOW the sound coming from a "null direction" is registered by the microphone(s) but is deliberately "reduced to null" / suppressed / deleted from the resulting sound that is sent out from this recording system.

that's a variation on the system that allows you to make a call from your mobile in strong wing or in the middle of heavy traffic - only the sound of your voice is amplified, the sound coming from elsewhere [i.e.from "null directions"] is "reduced to zero" or strongly suppressed.

angle mort

Explanation:

disagree  Daryo: wrong translation due to wrong interpretation - these are directions from which there is sound coming - sound that that IS picked up by the mikes, but that sound is unwanted, thus "turned to zero/suppressed" by the processing software.
