agree  Didier Fourcot: Pas pour reculer en présence de circulation perpendiculaire (mais est-ce bien prudent de reculer tout court dans ce cas?)
13 mins
  -> Merci.

agree  Tony M: One often does it, obviously waiting for an appropriate gap! But the angle of view is not sufficient for this purpose. This IS about 'cross path', as e.g. at a intersection.
1 hr
  -> Thanks.

neutral  Tatiana Ramputh: Circulation transversale refers to cross path as decribed in several car manufacturers website. Might be more related to intersections?
2 hrs
  -> Possibly - as I said, definitely not my field. Thanks.

passages piétons

Explanation:

disagree  Tony M: This is about vehicular traffic moving in a direction at 90° to the vehicle itself. / No, absolutely not! We would never refer to passing pedestrains as 'traffic'; the meaning in EN is perfectly clear, as ph-b has correctly said.

  -> The sentence is written in order to protect the constuctor in case of accident with vehicules (exstensive back-up maneuvers) or people (backing into cross traffic or pedestrian walkways)
