Feuerstellen Explanation: middens sind laut Merriam-Webster: an accumulation of refuse about a dwelling place. Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass es sich hier um Überreste von Feuerstellen handelt. |

Erdoefen/Erdgruben Explanation: Ich glaube, hier werden diese Gruben 'Burnt Rock Midden' genannt: http://www.texasbeyondhistory.net/bowie/middenwhat.html So eine Art Erdofen, in dem heisse Steine das Essen erhitzen und worin sich nach und nach mehr Steinbrocken und Essensreste anhaeufen ('midden'). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-01-10 11:52:59 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hier wird midden auch im Sinne von Erdofen gebraucht (Beispiel von den australischen Aborigines): http://www.barwonbluff.com.au/koorie/Middens.htm Example sentence(s):
