Es geht um die Mitschrift einer Vorlesung von Prof. Rattan Lal zum Thema "The Nexus of Soil, Water and Waste".

"Accelerated erosion can also be a source of greenhouse gases. Based on my own data on a global scale, if 6 Pg of carbon is being displaced by water erosion, 1.1 Pg out of that can be emitted into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and about 0.6 Pg is transported into the ocean and other aquatic ecosystems and ***depressional sites*** (Lal, 2003)."

Ich konnte den Begriff online nirgendwo finden. Könnte ich mit "Ablagerungsstätten" richtig liegen?

... wäre hier meine Vermutung - im Sinne von "Kohlenstoffsenken/CO2-Senken", da es ja um CO2-Emissionen geht (im Englischen wären das m. E. eigentlich "sinks").

agree  Coqueiro: so verstehe ich das auch - und selbst wenn es im rein orographischen Sinne gemeint wäre, passte diese Übersetzung

agree  Elke Eisenschmidt: "Senken" würde auch passen, wenn es sich schlicht und ergreifend um ein Senkungsgebiet handelt (siehe Coqueiro). Schließlich erfolgt die Ablagerung nach Transport immer in tiefer gelegenen Regionen. Nach oben wird im Normalfall nichts transportiert. ;-)
