The assessment of crustal and lithospheric structures requires a thorough geo-physical characterization, for tectonic systems and exploration. Field experiments mapping faults and shear zones or imaging the interaction of fluids with solid media are complemented by the monitoring of geothermal activity or exploration of non-/conventional geo-resources (e.g., geothermal fields).
We will focus on the development of methods/instruments for imaging physical properties in active and passive seismics/seismology. This comprises hardware and software developments in the GIPP, for amphibious surveying, and pattern recognition methods for optimized interpretation.
In the next years, we will 1) review the tectonic key question of the S-Atlantic opening (project SAMPLE), and 2) advance the technical development of GIPP (e.g., ocean shelf seismics, ’Large N’ seismological array concepts).
