This is from a booklet accompanying a classical CD, describing Beethovens Piano Sonata in F Minor, WoO 47 No. 2 (Kurfürstensonate):

The whole sentence reads:

It also displays an unprecedented *formal design*: the first movement’s slow introduction recurs throughout, a form which was later used in the first movement of the Pathétique Sonata.

"Formdenken" ist ein abstrakter Begriff und geht der eher praktischen "Konzeption" nach meinem Verständnis voraus
