If it's someone who has given up on their country, I would translate it this way. They think the battle is already lost since their country isn't theirs (anymore?), so fighting is pointless.

Stimme deiner Zusammenfassung zu. Die Sprecherin sieht es nicht als ihre Aufgabe/Pflicht an, für das Land zu kämpfen, das für sie ohnehin "verloren" scheint/ist//nicht von ihr zu verlieren ist/war.

Allerdings halte ich das im gegebenen Kontext für fraglich.

Birgit hat Recht, dass man das Sprichwort nicht nehmen kann, außer jemand geht auf globale Shopping-Tour und kauft ganze Staaten ein. Das passt gar nicht zum Kontext, den Kim dankenswerterweise bereitgestellt hat.

Letztlich heißt das: Vielleicht ist das alles nicht von Bedeutung/geht uns nichts (mehr) an. Das würde auch zum Umzug passen.

ohne mehr und genaueren Kontext scheint es leider fast unmöglich, mit absoluter Bestimmtheit zu sagen, was der Sprecher damit ausdrücken will - in der von dir geschilderten Situation könnte es sogar soviel heißen wie "Sieg oder Niederlage liegen nicht in unserer Hand" (ähnlich wie bei der bekannten Liedzeile aus "Que sera, sera" => "The future's not ours to see")...

Depending on context, this could mean something like: "It's not our country, therefore we can't lose it", "If the country is lost, it won't be our fault" or other, similar meanings. It really depends on the position of the speakers. Could you post a bit more about the context?

-> Es ist ein mehrdeutiger Satz. Ich hab die obige Übersetzung gewählt, weil Anja den Eindruck hatte, dass der Sprecher die Hoffnung für sein Land aufgegeben hat, aber deine Deutung ergibt natürlich auch Sinn.
