English term or phrase: Copulative A
Hi,

I must confess I'm not 100% sure that "Copulative A" is even the right term in English, but I wanted to know the correct term for the Α in Αχειλάς - one thing does seem clear i.e. that it is not "A Privative".

Please see
Αχειλάς, Αυτουλάς

Many thanks

Explanation:
Copulative is συμπλεκτικό/συνδετικό. Your link does not have Αχειλάς, only Αυτουλάς which means someone with prominent ears and the normal word is αυτιά (ears) so there is no strange linguistic phenomenon involved (i.e. no prefix).

Reference information:
Και το όνομα αυτού: reanalysis (επανάλυση)

Δεν υπάρχει μόρφημα "α-" στο "Αχειλάς". Πρόκειται για "εσφαλμένη" ανάλυση:

τα χείλια (προφ.: ταχείλια) > τ' αχείλια > (το) αχείλι > ο αχειλάς (= ο χειλάς)

Και

τα ωτία > ταοτία > ταυτιά > τ' αυτιά > το αυτί
