Η σπάτουλα λεγόταν σπάθη και το spatulate μεταφράζεται σπαθοειδής. Σπαθοειδή φύλλα βρίσκουμε, σπαθοειδή δόντια δεν βρίσκουμε (και δεν θα βοηθούσε σε παιδικό βιβλίο). Βρίσκουμε ότι τα δόντια των φυτοφάγων ήταν πεπλατυσμένα σε σύγκριση με τα μυτερά, σουβλερά των σαρκοφάγων.
