All right, then. This very interesting entry gives some useful context:

The first part is her rank, and the second is her position. It just so happens that both overlap when translated to Greek, since there's no equivalent for Junior Commander, other than Captain, also contained in "Staff Captain".

Re your questions: 1) they both appear side by side for the same person (woman). There is no context really; just the name of the woman followed by her rank, as the person certifying the document I am translating to be a true copy of a marriage entry
2) The document is a marriage certificate dated 1949 so I think a Greek (possible equivalent) rank of that era would be good but a modern one would also be OK as the person in question is not central to the document

Hello Pinelopi, a couple of questions:

1) Junior Commander is British then, but what about Staff Captain? Can you provide a bit more context? I can only locate non-English speaking countries having used this rank in the past.

2) Do you need an equivalent Greek rank (if it existed) during the 30's or 40's, or are you okay with the modern one? Is the text historical or functional?
