How do you pronounce it? Explanation: In Italian, it would be ka-ra-ba-lo. But in Spanish (which is more likely, I think) it could be ka-ra-va-yo. The Hebrew transliteration of the first pronunciation is קרבלו and of the second קרבייו or קרוויו -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs 4 mins (2005-07-13 23:55:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Try this website: http://genforum.genealogy.com/caraballo/ It suggests to me that it is a Spanish name: lots of your relatives are in Puerto Rico, apparently. You can contact them from the site. |

Saghi (with accent on the last syllable) שגיא Explanation: Caraballo is the name of a mountain range. Therefore I turned it into a Hebrew word, which is also used as a not uncommon name, Saghi. It is an adjective, meaning "lofty" "Impressive" used in literary Hebrew to describe great mountaints. Otherwise, if you only wish to transliterate your name, it would be קרבאלו. But I wouldn`t use it because people will nickname you "Karbolet"-- כרבולת which is the red crest of a rooster. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 18 hrs 47 mins (2005-07-14 16:38:02 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Well, that`s what the Britannica com said. Caraballo Mountains mountains in central Luzon, Philippines. The range reaches an elevation of about 5,500 feet (1,680 metres). It joins the Cordillera Central to the north and the Sierra Madre to the east. Drained by the headwaters of the northward-flowing Cagayan River, the mountains are heavily forested. |
