I have a term "Shell & Lining" to translate. The general term for lining is "अस्तर". While is "अस्तर" is inner layer, generalized term for the outer layer is called "Shell". Examples are Sweater, Jacket, Rain Coat, etc. Closest term I have found is "आवरण", but looking for a better term. Thank you in advance :).

"Shell & Lining" हिंदी साहित्य में किस तरह अभिव्यक्त हुआ है, इसके उदाहरण के रूप में हिंदी की प्रसिद्ध लेखिका सुश्री महादेवी वर्मा के इन शब्दों को देखें -

"किसी से कभी मिले हुए पुराने कोट में, नीचे के मटमैले अस्तर की झांकी देती हुई ऊपरी तह तार-तार फटकर झालरदार हो उठी थी और अब अपने पहननेवाले को एक जन्तु की भूमिका में उपस्थित करती थी।"

ऊपरी तह, बाहरी तह, खोल - ये आम प्रयोग में आने वाले शब्द हैं, जिन्हें दर्जी भी समझता है और आम ग्राहक भी। वर्तमान संदर्भ में "उपरिशायी" को एक आम हिंदी भाषी आसानी से समझ लेगा या "आवरण" सहज अनुवाद होगा, इसमें मुझे संदेह है।

प्रश्नकर्ता के संदर्भ के अनुसार - outer layer is called "Shell"

जबकि बुकरम (Buckram) एक प्रकार का वस्त्र है, जिसे कमीज के कॉलर या कोट में कंधों पर अंदर की ओर डाला जाता है, जिससे कड़ापन आ जाए।
बुकरम के बारे में यह जानकारी पठनीय है - "Buckram is a stiff cloth, made of cotton, and still occasionally linen, which is used to cover and protect books. Buckram can also be used to stiffen clothes. जी...इसीलिये मैने नोट जोड़ा था...Shell के लिये कपड़ों और पहनावे के संदर्भ में सबसे अनुकूल अर्थ बाहरी आवरण या बाहरी खोल (थोड़ा कम बेहतर) हो सकता है।
