English term or phrase: clanked up
I’m telling you, the canopy jettison handle sticks out too far, and someone is going to snag it with his flying-suit sleeve if he gets in a hurry reaching for the TACAN channel selector. Be careful? Hell yes, we’re careful, that’s why it hasn’t happened so far, but how about some poor second lieutenant in bad weather, at night for the first time, when he’s clanked up anyway?

clanked up?

I'm not sure what it means exactly. I though something like "being stuck" (incastrato) but I' haven't found any confirmation. This is an American talking in the early 60s.

Many thanks for any help.

agitato, nervoso (in quanto novellino)

Explanation:

clank up = to move with such sounds: "The old truck clanked up the hill."
