tutta l'astronomia ha a che fare con onde elettromagnetiche, le quali sono nelle frequenze del visibile nel caqso dei telescopi ottici, e in altre frequenze (dette anche bande) nel caso dei radiotelescopi, dai raggi X alle microonde etc. Le microonde sono solo una delle possibilitá, per cui se il testo ne parla, conviene riportarlo anziché generalizzare.

Inoltre, i satelliti SWAS e Odino (1998, 2001) hanno studiato l’emissione galattica submillimetrica e Herschel di ESA si sovrappone anche sulla stessa gamma.
