Explanation:
Hi, I think this is what it is. Without studies, it is also called as 文化的景観.

I found a short description in Japanese.

Hi AyeJay, I happen to live near the Institute for Cultural Landscape Studies at Harvard Uniersity. (http://www.arboretum.harvard.edu/programs/ld/more_resources.... )
Someone translates this as 文化風景研究所, (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/morohiro_s/10001028 ), but I'm not sure this is legit or nor. The majority is 文化景観 or 文化的景観.

Good luck. Arnold Arboretam is such a serene place.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Rie. I It is an interesting subject, and makes complete sense when you think about it. Regarding the translation, I was mostly stuck on whether to go with 「造園」、「風致計画」 or 「景色」, but your link was helpful. Thanks again!
