English term or phrase: cross-holes
Hi. I'm translating medical materials and the part I'm translating right now is basically about MMF fixation.
The title of this document is "IMF screw placement". The sentence I cannot convert into natural Japanese comes as 4th step of this placement technique.

....
3. Load appropriate length IMF screw onto 2.4 mm Screwdriver with Holing Sleeve.
4. Identify the canine root and infraorbital nerve before inserting the maxillary screws. **Cruciform slots should orient cross-holes to the occlusal plane.**
5. ................

I'm not too sure what "cross-holes" mean here which is the main reason why I cannot convert the sentence into Japanese; are "cross-holes" those in mandible and maxilla?
In "2", there's no mention about drilling pilot holes, and it just says "mark the location of the canine tooth root". This cannot be the same as drilling holes there. If I understood the explanation in "2" correctly, there's no "hole" prior to loading the screw.

I really appreciate the help.

有用なリンクをありがとうございました。やはり貫通穴、貫通孔という言葉が使われるのですね。どうってことのない言葉も、いざ訳文に使うとなると適切でなければならないので、使用例の確認ができて助かりました。ありがとうございました。
