other problems can include, but are not necessarily limited to : a,b,c...... このほか A, B, C...等の問題点が考えられる。 Explanation: Let's take the translation in two step process. その他 A,B,C...等の諸問題を含む(Other problems...include) こともありうる(can) が、但し (but) 必ずしも (necessarily) この限りではない (not... limited to)。 The above is not yet translation but only a parsing exercise. Actual translation, the second step, should reflect the context and change accordingly. Note how the modal verb "can" sets the tone. It may be absorbed into 考えられる putting forth the author's view, partly because there is no such modal verb in Japanese. Possible Japanese renditions can include, but are not necessarily limited to: ・このほか A, B, C...等の問題点が考えられる。 ・その他 A, B, C...の諸問題も想定できる。 ・これ以外にも以下のような状況がありうる。(preferrably, insert a line break here)A, B, C...。 ・生じうる、あるであろう、あります...等々。 Explicitly stating 必ずしもこの限りではない on top of を含むが, for example, comes across as pedantic and excessive but for such utilitarian purposes as legal documents. "Not necessarily limited to" may accurately be reflected into られる, ありうる or a single character も if, and only if, the target sentence is well formed. 日本語もなかなか難しいですが、お役に立てれば。 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs (2011-02-26 07:42:29 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 上に問題の表現を応用して"Possible Japanese renditions can include, but are not necessarily limited to" と和訳をいくつか例示してみましたが、"Possible Japanese renditions are" という前置きだけでもいいところを、なぜ"can include, but are not necessarily limited to" という但し書きを追加しているのか、その効果を考えてみてください。 |
