agree  MarikoB: I would choose this translation. Because it is a tattoo it would look better without hiragana.

agree  Minoru Kuwahara: as an alternative, i may prefer a moderate way of putting the phrase into Japanese with literally translating, yes. -

agree  michiko tsum (X): Since the asker is requesting for an "exact translation", this one is the best.
2 hrs

agree  Yasutomo Kanazawa: As a tatoo I would choose Shishimac-san's translation, but as tsumura-san says, since the asker is requesting an exact translation, I would choose this one too.
3 hrs

agree  Miho Ohashi: Same here, for an exact translation, I think this is the best option. 強者生存 as a tatoo is a cool idea ;-)

This is a typical proverbial phrase for explaining the world where thse the strong survives by eating (beating) the weak.

I thought of another catch-phrase like「サバイバル精神」!!
It's totally up to the individual, some prefer a well-known phrase to a expression of a thought and vice versa. I personally like these kinds of catch phrases on a T-shirt rather than reading a sentence...
Good luck anyway.

woops, not a T-shirt, on a skin... Is it for a real tatoo on a skin or a washable print for kids?

agree  Krzysztof Łesyk: I find the practice of permanently marking one's body with words in language one doesn't know odd, but this is what I would chose for myself if held at gunpoint and forced to get inked ;)

  -> Thanks, yes for a tatoo, a powerful and a well known phrase may strike.

neutral  Minoru Kuwahara: personally i do not like this conventional phrase except that it's used in a context of biology. To asker: it's a tatoo, so you may well be evem attentive in your enjoyment of using a foreign phrase truly. -

  -> Thanks. it's a tatoo phrase. Why not?

agree  Keijiroh Yama-Guchi: 英語からの語感としては、これが一番ピッタリしているようです。

  -> Thank you!

agree  bigcat: Others are good, but this is the one with the best wording for a tattoo.
