Thank you everybody. I was indeed looking for translation of Hilflosigkeit in Freudian psychoanalysis, but posted question in English because I am not good at German. I should have specified this more clearly. I could find articles on Hilflosigkeit (helplessness) translated as ､隍

neutral  Kurt Hammond: perhaps common in Freudian psychoanalysis, but I do psychology translations on a regular basis and the term 無力(さ) is very commonly used, but so far I have not seen よるべなさ

  -> actually I agree with you, but I noticed Bigg had posted several q's all common in Freudian terminology so I guessed this was another one of it. Also the mention of 'Hilflosigkeit' made me think that this was Freudian. maybe I'm over-guessing...
disagree  humbird: This is not exact;ly a word for "helplessness". It means "have nobody (or nothing) to rely on". Most native's association to this is "orphanage". You stretched it a bit too far. Yes you are guessing but not in the right direction.

  -> I thought Bigg's specifying that s/he is looking for the term 'helplessness' in the sense of Hiflosigkeit was quite particular, hence my guess/suggestion. I don't think I am necessarily guessing in the wrong direction - how can you be so sure?
disagree  donnelstern: Hilflosigkeit is indeed used by Freud, in which it means "helplessness." Consult "Helplessness" in the book, The Language of Psychoanalysis, by Laplanche and Pontalis. Entry too long to post here..
