Kaip ir šios salos kaimynai – Brunėjaus, Malaizijos gyventojai – indoneziečiai „čili“ pipirais aštrina daugelį patiekalų, ruošia pagardus „sambal“. Taip pat mėgaujasi tuo pačiu satay, soto ar otak – otak.
