Viena iš tinkamo paciento sutikimo sąlygų yra tinkamas išankstinis paciento informavimas apie jo sveikatos būklę, ligos diagnozę, medicininio tyrimo duomenis, gydymo metodus, gydymo prognozę, gydymo eigą, galimus gydymo rezultatus, galimus alternatyvius gydymo metodus ir kitas aplinkybes, kurios gali turėti įtakos paciento apsisprendimui sutikti ar atsisakyti siūlomo gydymo, taip pat apie pasekmes atsisakius siūlomo gydymo.
