English term or phrase: deep-rooted history
An old city with a deep-rooted history.

Can we say "sejarah yang sudah lama berakar umbi" in Malay? Is it suitable to use in this sentence?

Many thanks!!

Malay translation:Sejarah yang panjang
Explanation:
"Sebuah kota lama dengan sejarah yang panjang"
Ayat ini jelas menunjukkan kota itu cukup tua usianya dengan sejarahnya yang banyak.

Mungkin boleh juga "sejarah mapan" seperti yang dicadangkan yam2u yang bermaksud kukuh, teguh tidak berubah-ubah.
Namun, saya cenderung kepada "sejarah yang panjang"

sejarah yang sudah bertapak/mapan

Explanation:

The meaning of deep-rooted is firmly fixed/held, i.e. indeed berakar umbi, as given by PRPM.

So technically, the correct translation is sejarah yang sudah berakar umbi [lama is redundant and not necessary here].

However sudah berakar umbi is more suitable when speaking of ideas or principles.

With something like history, perhaps it is more appropriate to translate it as established, thus yang sudah bertapak/mapan or something similar.
