Dangers and effects of freezing

- Non-functioning of antennae
- Obscuring of the canopy or windshield


Frozen sensors make the information they send to the plane's main systems inaccurate. The speed and aircraft altitude are unreliable, requiring use of the emergency system. Without this, the automatic pilot or the manual piloting by the crew would be very difficult.
A frozen pitot sensor causes an increase in the indicated speed.
There is also the risk of the blockage of exits (joint freezing) and the obstruction of drainage points.
