Niewykluczone, że to błąd angielszczyzny, bo autorami są H G Pisarski and A Muhammed :) Może chodzi o naprężenie szczątkowe rzędu/wielkości umownej granicy plastyczności? W tekście pojawia się też "yield strength", czasem skracane do "yield", więc może to taki skrót myślowy...

stresses in the girth welded pipe spool were of the order of
