Prin proiectarea parametrică se pot obține configurări (instanțe) diferite ale acelorași componente geometrice. Fiecare instanță reprezintă un set unic de transformări bazate pe un set unic de parametri. Un model parametric permite proiectantului să efectueze schimbări și reconfigurări ale geometriei fără a șterge și redesena.
