English to Romanian translations [PRO] Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / woodworking
English term or phrase:burled
Here’s a chance to use those prized leftover scraps of wood you’ve been saving since the last millennium. This pull is as simple as it gets, and that’s probably why I like it so much. Use a liveedged piece of wood—burled or highly figured woods are my favorites—to make each pull unique. Sculpt the shape of the pull on the bandsaw however you wish; just be sure to keep the mounting face flat. Try beveling the ends for a dramatic effect (A). inițial am zis cu noduri, dar apoi am găsit la http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_(wood)..cred că se referă la modelul fibrei? da nu găsesc
Explanation: 'Burl wood is a type of wood used by artists to create sculptures and other items, such as clocks and even some forms of furniture. It is highly prized by artists because of its unique shapes and ring patterns. This wood is a type of fast growing, abnormal growth found on some trees. It grows because the tree has experienced some sort of environmental stress or damage, and it is often caused by either a fungal attack or an attack by insects.' http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-burl-wood.htm
Eu cred că aşa rămâne bucata asta, 'buboasă', for a 'dramatic effect'. :))
In wood, figure refers to the appearance of wood, as seen on a longitudinal surface (side-grain): a "figured wood" is not plain. The figure of a particular piece of wood is, in part, due to its grain and, in part, due to the cut, or to innate properties of the wood. A few of the tropical hardwoods, like the rosewoods, may have quite spectacular figure. Types of figure include "bear scratches," bird's eye, blister, burl, curl, dimple, fiddleback, flame, "ghost," quilted, and spalted.
