English term or phrase: cancellation of marriage
Multumesc frumos

cancellation of marriage > calling off of a wedding
anulează o nuntă

Explanation:
I'm coming in late on this one, but there are too many unkowns, namely 1. the 'English-speaking' country where such act is purported to have been carried out 2. cancellation of the wedding ceremony 3. cancellation of an entry in register of marriages 4. of a religious marriage by the Church or other religious e.g. a Sharia or Beth Din court. 5. and on whose initiative : one or both of the parties or an ecclesiastical or government agency.

Also, annulment of a void or voidable marriage operates retrospectively and makes any children illegitimate whereas cancellation may well operate prospectively, leaving vested rights intact,

Example sentence(s):
  • Nullity is a declaration that a valid marriage never existed.
  • Marriage can be cancelled at any time. No illegality flows out of an act of cancelling marriage due to a change of mind.
