Am citit întreaga povestire, nu e prea lungă, aici: https://www.shortstoryproject.com/story/time-and-again/ Ce se întâmplă de fapt: personajul principal se ocupă cu deszăpezirea drumului de munte din sătucul în care locuiește, folosind un plug cu lamă, dar în același timp, mașinăria pe care o conduce împrăștie și sare în urmă. Mașinile se țin cârd după el - încercând, prostește, cum chiar el afirmă, să se folosească de avantajul de a merge chiar în spatele plugului, ca și cum le-ar fi automat garantată siguranța pe drum, lama răzuind zăpada, mașinăria scuipând-o în movile pe margine și sarea presărată aducând un plus de tracțiune. Dar pe șoferi, *common fools*, nu îi duce mintea că de fapt sarea are nevoie de un anumit interval de timp până să acționeze asupra gheții. Așa că... *a line falls in* (mașinile se țin cârd după el/ mașinile se aliniază în spatele lui/ mașinile îl urmează înșiruite), dar *they always drop back* - adică patinează la vale din nou. **The snow piles in a wall against the berm. No cars move. They are stranded at the side, and as I plow past them, a line falls in behind me, but they always drop back. They don’t know how long it takes the salt to work. They are common fools.
