Explanation:
по сути создание серии заданий различного уровня сложности и выполнение их, начиная от простейших (соответствующих возможностям пациента) и постепенно переходя к более сложным

Graded task methods are derived from behavioral shaping strategies. Graded task assignments are commonly used early in therapy to help patients overcome inertia and expose them to potentially rewarding experiences (Butler & Beck, 1995).
If a task is overwhelming in size and scope, it is helpful to break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. Many times, a depressed patient can feel overwhelmed and powerless by the effort required to get parts of her life going again. Tasks such as taking care of the home, meeting new people, getting or keeping a job, and other events typical of life are often not addressed or dealt with because problem solving these issues seems complicated and overwhelming.

Sequencing graded tasks is sometimes called graded task assignment (Beck and Weishaar, 2005) or setting proximal sub-goals (Bandura, 1986). A useful distinction is that between setting distant and proximal or nearer goals. The research evidence is equivocal regarding the effectiveness of setting distant goals. More certain appears the desirability of setting proximal goals or sub-goals (Bandura, 1986). Bandura observes that ‘Subgoals provide present guides and inducements for action, while subgoal attainments produce efficacy information and self-satisfactions that sustain one’s efforts along the way.’ (Bandura, 1986: 475).

Practitioner's Role: To challenge these expectations, use graded tasks likely to lead to a successful or pleasurable outcome (Sacco & Beck 1985). A goal suggested by the client is selected. A series of tasks, graduated from easy to difficult, is set up to bring about step-by-step progress toward the goal. The goal itself may be a relatively simple accomplishment, such as a home improvement project or joining a social group. However, attainment of the goal itself is secondary to the main purpose of providing the client with a successful or enjoyable experience. The grading of the task permits repeated successes as well as adjustments if difficulties are encountered (Reid 1992).

Принцип постепенности особенно важен при повышении физической нагрузки по всем ее показателям:
объему, интенсивности, количеству упражнений, числу их повторений, сложности упражнений как внутри одного занятия, так и на протяжении всего процесса реабилитации.
