Detailed Assembly Descriptions
This section describes the major assemblies in detail: where they are located, what components or sub-assemblies they contain, what functions they serve in the Die Necker, and what adjustments are needed for them.
Infeed
Physical Description
The Infeed brings the CAN into the Die Necker system from the Infeed Chute, transfers the CAN along the Infeed track by forced air flow, through guides, and positions it for entry into the Waxer.
Refer to Figure 5-3.
Infeed Assembly
Infeed Function
The Infeed is a two-stage system that allows the CANs to be separated and accelerated up to operating speed.
The factory trackwork supplies CANs to the Infeed chute at a 30 degree angle.
The Infeed chute is also equipped with a CAN feed stop mechanism to stop the flow of CANs into the Necker.
Forced air from the plenums carries the CANs quickly and smoothly through the infeed track.
As the CANs exit the infeed track, the CAN guides direct them into individual pockets on the first star wheel.
The CAN is held in the star wheel pocket by vacuum.
The CAN is then guided by CAN outside diameter and end guides as it is transferred to the second star wheel, which then transfers the CAN to the Waxer Turret.
Components
The Infeed consists of the following components:
Infeed track: receives incoming CANs from the **single-filer** and brings the CANs into position under the CAN guides and the front and rear air plenums.
Air blower and plenums: pushes the CANs through the infeed track.
Infeed CAN Stop: stops CAN loading due to a fault and indicates it with an LED.
CAN Present sensor: senses a missing CAN.
Optional Cameras:
Spray Dot, Label, Cut Edge, and Bodymaker Identification (BMID).
Adjustment Summary
The critical adjustment on the Infeed is setting the guides for CAN height and outside diameter, so the CANs slide through the chute and into the infeed wheel pockets easily.
