English term or phrase: English Language Arts (ELA)
Our school district uses the term ELA to encompass everything that we used to call "English." Basics such as phonetics, grammar, reading, writing, etc. in elementary school to literature, usage, purpose of text, etc. for secondary.

Context: It's often referred to as the name of a course or class (classes in math, ELA, science, etc.).

I understand it isn't good practice to just translate it as "artes de lenguaje." What do you all think about "elementos de inglés"? Or can you think of a better way to say it, distinguishing it from English as a second language? It needs to be short! We have been using "lenguaje (inglés)" or simply "lenguaje inglés," but I'm not enthused about it.

english language arts
artes del idioma inglés

Explanation:
No estoy de acuerdo con la traducción literal, pero es lo que se utiliza en los EE. UU.

Lo correcto debería ser:
- estudios del idioma inglés
- lengua y literatura en inglés
- artes lingüísticas en inglés
- etc.

Pero, recordemos que a veces triunfa el uso por sobre lo correcto.

Asker: Thank you, but using "artes" is out of the question here. Others that I work with have already ruled it out.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you. We can use this in some instances, such as when ELA is used as a heading or subtitle. We wouldn't use it in a sentence, though.
