...and not because I think it's a suitable translation here, the statement that "bachillerato" does not refer to university study anywhere in the Spanish-speaking world is not true. The bachillerato universitario is well established, to my knowledge, in Chile, Argentina and Honduras and is being actively discussed, if not already implemented, in Mexico (where "bachillerato" denoted exclusively university study until 1938). I expect it exists in some other Latin American countries too. In all cases, I think, it denotes a shorter, lesser degree than a licenciatura, roughly equivalent to an associate degree.

At the University of Chester in the UK, to take an example at random, students from Honduras with a "Bachillerato Universitario (3 years) are considered for entry into the third year of a bachelor's degree course.

Coincido con abe(L)solano. Sin embargo, sospecho que si se empleara Licenciatura o Grado de Educación Superior, igual se entendería en ambos continentes. En estos casos, y en aras de la claridad, yo dejo el nombre del título original en paréntesis

indican que se trata de una licenciatura "de excelencia", que se distingue de una licenciatura/carrera "normal" porque precisamente a los alumnos se les exige un nivel de rendimiento más alto, además hay un trámite de selección adicional para ingresar a este tipo de estudios y por último, son carreras que están certificadas por las autoridades educativas como "de excelencia". Por otro lado, es necesario saber si la traducción es para LatAm en general (Licenciatura) o España ("Grado" de Educación Superior que yo sepa, solo se usa en España).

Bachelor's degrees in Canada normally require three or four years of full-time study, depending on the province or whether the program is general or specialized. An honours baccalaureate degree usually signals a higher degree of concentration in the honours subject, as well as a higher level of academic achievement.

Pero "honour" no se refiere a una distincción, sino simplemente es la modalidad.
