Hello,

I am translating a book dealing with warfare in Ancient Greece and I came accross some "600 Companions". The text is as follows:

"King Philip II turned this backwater (the Macedonian territory) into a powerful kingdom with a peerless army. He greatly expanded his force of heave cavalry, the 600 Companions, recruited from Macedonian nobles".

Now my question is: are these "600 Companions" a particular group of soldiers at the service of Philip II and his son Alexander? Does anybody know the Spanish term for this?
