I don't know of any one term that can be used to convey the whole meaning of carpetbaggers. Do you think I'll have to settle for "especuladores" or "oportunistas"? Can you think of another way to do this?


With his documents from Governor Hamilton, X apparently expected to reclaim his land, his life, and local government. Instead, X found unsympathetic Union carpetbaggers who told him that the general post-war amnesty granted to most Confederate citizens did not include him. Only a presidential pardon would reinstate him.
