English term or phrase: crucible
Hola me gustaría saber cómo se dice esta palabra en español, el contexto es el siguiente: "We have room for one language here and that is the English Language, for we intend to see that crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding house".
De antemano muchas gracias.

Spanish translation:crisol
Explanation:

Crucible

Explanation:
Surely it should be 'Crucible', with upper-case 'C' in both languages? It's the name of the organization, company or ... (whatever it is), hence does not need translating.

On the other hand, if it's supposed to be a quote from Theodore Roosevelt: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/r/roosevelt-immigration...
then please quote it correctly: "to see that THE crucible turns our people ...". And in that case forget this answer.

crisol

Explanation:

Te ruego me disculpes, buen colega.

agree  ClaraVal: This extract is from a speech by Theodore Roosevelt (you can google it and find an existing translation). The crucible is definitely a metaphor for America.
