English term or phrase: Recall / Free recall
Traduzco una tesis sobre la lectura en lengua extranjera y, la mayoría del tiempo, habla de estudios de otras personas que, con carácter general, utilizan grupos de estudiantes diversos para evaluar las formas de comprender los textos al leer. Los términos L1 y L2 salen a menudo, haciendo referencia al nivel de competencia. Aquí va algo de contexto:

"On the L2 free recall and T/F tasks, the scores on the familiar content were significantly higher, and familiarity of content was more significant than vocabulary support."

"The author argues that vocabulary does not seem to affect recall, since the pre-reading vocabulary and no vocabulary scores were not significant, but does not consider the inferences, where there is a sizeable difference for both the compatible and incompatible inferences between the no vocabulary group and the rest – see Alptekin (2006) above."

"The only significant effect on the L2 recall for the advanced group was the novelty of the unfamiliar text, not context or language."

"Hammadou (1991) had beginner and more advanced French and Italian students, all university native speakers of English, read three authentic newspaper articles, with an L1 recall task after each text. Although L2 proficiency was highly significant, there was no effect of topic familiarity on L1 recall scores, between the two groups. However, the lower proficiency students made more inferences, and more inappropriate inferences than the more proficient."

neutral  JohnMcDove: Estimado Juan: "asociación" como sinónimo de "recuerdo" me parece excesivamente "libre". Yo podría asociar "un huevo y una castaña"... pero como dice el refrán "se parecen lo que un huevo a una castaña"... ¿No?
