Generalmente, ortopeda se refiere al médico (ortopedista) y ortesista al técnico especialista;

El manejo ortésico del pie y el tobillo exige una relación complementaria entre el médico ortopedista y el ortesista

4 [ingl. orthotics] s.f. Disciplina científicotécnica que se ocupa de las ortesis y de las ayudas técnicas o productos de apoyo. Forma parte de la especialidad de medicina física y rehabilitación y está relacionada con otras especialidades médicas, quirúrgicas u odontológicas.
