English term or phrase: Custom House
Se trata de unas cartas con partes militares del siglo 19, concretamente de la Guerra de la Independencia española de 1812. Se trata de una transcripción de las cartas manuscritas originales, que tuve ocasión de ver y finalmente transcribió otra person.

"The next day the Lines of Circumvalation were abandoned, which Suchet soon entered, & immediately began his covered ways, and batteries up to the Walls of the Town. Several Howitzers were placed at Rusafa and three Mortars in the Garden of Capuchinos on the other [105] side of the River. On the 5th Jan[uar]y the bombardment began, and was particularly violent during the night. The first twenty four hours about 1800 Shells were thrown, chiefly directed upon the center of the town, Blake’s Head Quarters, at the ***Custom house***, and Cervellons House where O’Donnell had lived. On the 6th Suchet sent in a Flag of Truce intimating a surrender, which was rejected, the bombardment continued ‘till the 8th; the Calle de Zaragoza, Plaza S[an]ta Catalina & S[a]n Martin nearly destroyed, the Archbishops Palace in flames, and the University sharing the same fate, both these buildings were burnt down, a great number of the Inhabitants had already been killed by the Shells, and the City affording no protection whatever, (there being no caves like at Zaragosa [sic.]) and very few buildings bomb proof, a deputation from the Consulado, Ajuntamiento [sic.], Nobility and others, waited upon. Blake to beg of him to surrender the City, by agreeing to the most advantageous capitulation he could conclude with the Enemy."
