Guides: a combined cavalry-infantry corps founded in 1847, which was
part of the British frontier forces in India. (Cavalry soldiers fought on
horseback and infantry soldiers fought on foot.) (And not otherwise, obviously!)

Well, this coordinates with modern forces. Asker: Gracias, pero ¿no habría que usar algún tipo de “explicao” como “el viejo regimiento británico de Guías” o algo así, para que nadie se confunda con “guías” corrientes y molientes?

Asker: Supongo que ya sea que use "Guides" como "Guías", lo pongo entre comillas, y así nadie se pierde demasiado... Gracias. :-)
