STREAM CHUTE DESIGN FOR THE LAST CROSS-STREAM SAMPLER
The design of the stream chute prior to the final cross-stream sampler is very crude, as illustrated in figure 8, making it very difficult for the last cross-stream sampler to do a good job.
The resulting problems are:
The falling stream tends to swirl around the roof of the receiving box, making it difficult for the cutter to intercept the entire stream.
This defect can result in both a Delimitation Bias and an Extraction Bias.
It is essential to design the stream chute as illustrated by the correct alternative in figure 8, so the falling stream is not attracted by the surface under the box.
