es el único que puede determinara la raducción correcta. Es verdad que la "prensa amarilla" se refiere a los "Tabloids" y el término "Yellow press or Journalism" también existe, sin embargo no se encuentra ninguna entrada que relacione bares en Dublin con amarillo o bares frecuentados principalmente por periodistas de tabloides. Por otro lado, habla de bares amarillos... dudo que muchos bares fueran de color amarillo.Indudablemente se refiere a una caracteristica común de un numero de bares pero ahi está el misterio, a qué se refiere con amarillo? Desde luego yellow tiene muchas acepciones, tales como "cowardly, sensational, jealous etc", pero no así en espanol!

Personally, I think it just means "yellow" bars, i.e. the colo(u)r. It may not be necessarily"cutre (shabby)", but "seedy" perhaps? I really don´t know as it is not something that would remotely interest me.

"St. Nicholas'' may not have the depth and scope of ''The Weir,'' Mr. McPherson's current London hit about story swapping in a remote Irish pub. But like the best of fairy tales, spooky campfire recitations and the self-aggrandizing myths spun in barrooms, this shaggy vampire story touches on primal concerns beneath its lurid surface.

The play follows the drama critic from his souring life in Dublin through a drunken spree that lands him in a comfortable coven of vampires in suburban London. But it begins in darkness. From the back of the theater, a voice says sonorously, ''When I was a boy, I was afraid of the dark.'' As Mr. Cox's character continues to speak, wandering through the audience and onto the stage and then back into the audience, the subject remains fear and the forms it takes as people get older.

contexto? De buenas a primeras, por lo que dices, "bares cutres" podría servir. Hasta "bares de mala muerte"... Pero también pienso en la "prensa amarillista", y se me ocurre que "bar frecuentado por los reporteros amarillistas" "por los periodistas sensacionalistas"? No sé si sería una opción. Por otro lado, el Urban Dictionary también da una opción muy positiva para "yellow". La 5 aquí: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Yellow Si "no éramos meros reporteros" se entiende muy positivamente, esa acepción podría encajar. Pero sin más contexto, es un poco aventurado decantarse por la opción "cutre" con los tipos borrachos ahogándose en sus propias jarras, o la versión "optimista" y luminosa del amarillo... (Me recuerda a la canción de los Toreros Muertos de "La aguita amarilla"... ;-) En fin, ya nos dirás algo. Saludos cordiales.
