I meant "If at the current time the date is not currently held in memory."

I didn't intend to stick to the word "state." I just didn't know an alternative word to convey the meaning.
I changed "stored" to "held" because they were different words in the original context . It can be anything that has a similar meaning to "retained" or "held." I appreciated your suggestion.

I don't know why you're so keen on this use of 'state' — it is extremely unnatural and unidiomatic in EN and immediately betrays a non-native speaker; in addition, it is totally redundant!

Also, "in a state that..." is the wrong construction — one would expect it to continue "In a state that ... it is suitable for further processing" etc.

If I were trying to crowbar 'state' into the sentence (which I wouldn't anyway!), I would write soemthing like "so it is in a state of being held in memory" — which although horribly clumsy and unidiomatic would at least be grammatically correct.

Note that your modification to my suggestion "...has not already been held in memory..." changes the meaning, by using a different verb; and I suspect the change is NOT conveying the meaning you think it is! "has not been held" tends rather to suggest "...at some time ever in the past"; but I'm assuming you really mean "If at the current time the date is not currently held in memory" or "has not already been stored in memory" — these subtle syntactical differences are quite important.

I know the sentence is redundant and the original sentence too...

I should probably say "If the data has not already been held in memory, the device acquires the data and stores it in memory so that the data is in a state that it is held in the memory."

It doesn't really make sense as you have written it, no. But the trouble is, the overall meaning of the whole sentence is unclear, so it is very difficult to help you improve just this one bit of it.

Taking it in isolation, what is wrong with it, to me, is that we wouldn't talke about 'placing date into a state' — we might 'place data into a specified memory location', but talking about 'state' with 'data' is confusing in the first place, as well as being very largely redundant.
But there is an overall problem with your whole sentence; it may be the sequence of tenses that is wrong, but it is far from clear to me. Do you mean "If the data has not already been stored in memory, the device acquires the data and stores it in memory"? If so, then you can simply carry on with "so the data will be retained if the power is turned off" (for example).
If you can help us to try and understand what you're really trying to say, we can probably help you to arrive at a more idiomatic sounding result in EN.
